Narendra Modi is the 14th prime minister of India and has just secured a third consecutive term, a rare feat in modern politics. His Zi Wei Dou Shu chart makes clear why he became this kind of decisive, high-impact figure.
Sha Po Lang: the mark of an initiator
Modi’s chart is dominated by the Sha Po Lang constellation (Qi Sha, Po Jun, Tan Lang), a configuration ancient texts associated with important generals, and modern readings link to initiators and leaders. Across his Destiny, Body, Wealth, and Career palaces, this is unmistakably the chart of a man of action and influence.
Hua Quan’s presence signifies military, official, and creative power, along with the capacity for self-support, the ability to command authority, generate original ideas, and sustain himself through setbacks. Zuo Fu and You Bi, as auxiliary stars, amplify the effect of Sha Po Lang and Hua Quan further, pointing to robust support from others. The Four Virtues (Tian De, Yue De, Long De, Fu De) converging here add a layer of moral grounding, tied to a life devoted to public service.
A childhood at the village library
As a child, Modi spent most of his time at the village library, often staying until closing, much to the staff’s frustration. He was an active student who participated in sports, drama, and rhetoric competitions, reflected in his youth major cycle (15–24 lunar years), where Hua Ke, Wen Chang, Wen Qu, the Four Holy Beasts (Qing Long, Feng Ge, Bai Hu, Hua Gai), and Sui Ri all converge.
The Spouse palace: solitude within marriage, an asset for politics
Tian Xiang in the Spouse palace suggests he should have married later in life than 18 (lunar years), given the tendency toward discord and separation it carries. Gu Chen and Gua Su here point to a sense of loneliness and emotional distance even within the marriage, and the alignment of the six killing stars (Di Kong, Di Jie, Qing Yang, Ling Xing, Huo Xing) reinforces a natural predisposition toward marital difficulty.
But this turned into an advantage politically. At 17, Modi married Jashodaben Chimanlal, and that same year left home to travel the country, effectively ending his marital obligations from that point on. As an unattached man, he could fight corruption more aggressively than someone carrying the responsibilities of a spouse and children.
Two wins, two well-timed cycles
In 2014, Modi won his first prime ministerial election, lifted by a favorable Lu Cun and Hua Ke in that year’s cycle, layered onto an already strong Destiny palace (Sha Po Lang, Hua Quan, Zuo Fu, You Bi).
His third consecutive win was propelled by a similar convergence: fleeting Hua Ke in the Destiny palace, fleeting Hua Quan in the Career palace, and fleeting Hua Lu in the Wealth palace, all in the same year’s cycle. His 75–84 major cycle, carrying Hua Ke, Hua Lu, Wen Chang, and Wen Qu, further reinforced this run.
What this chart teaches
Modi’s chart illustrates a useful principle: what reads as a setback in one area of life (marriage) can become a condition for success in another (a political career). Zi Wei Dou Shu doesn’t grade a chart as universally “good” or “bad”. Each palace reflects a distinct facet of a person’s life, and sometimes the trade-off between them is exactly what shapes someone into a success in the area they care about most.
