Yin Yang Wu Xing Reciprocity: Why Elements Matter

Two sisters, born ten minutes apart, with almost the same chart.

And yet, one has a more favorable elemental alignment than the other.

This article explains why. The key lies in the concept of Yin Yang Wu Xing, the interaction of the five elements and the two polarities, and how it plays out differently in each sister’s chart.

What Yin Yang Wu Xing Means

Yin Yang Wu Xing refers to the fundamental concepts of traditional Chinese philosophy.

Yin and Yang are the two complementary forces that describe the dynamic balance of the universe. Wu Xing is the five elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. Each element has its own qualities, and each interacts with the others in cycles of generation and control.

In Zi Wei Dou Shu, these concepts are applied to the natal chart. The elements of the birth year, month, day, and hour are compared with the elements of the Destiny palace and the Phase of the chart.

The result is a measure of elemental balance. When the elements align, the life is more harmonious. When they are in conflict, the life faces more friction.

The Birth Data Of The Two Sisters

Both sisters share the same birth data:

  • Hour: Ox, which is Earth
  • Day: Pig, which is Water
  • Month: Rooster, which is Metal
  • Year: Dog, which is Earth

At first glance, the two sisters appear to have identical elemental configurations. But the analysis goes further.

The Elemental Comparison

The analysis compares several pairs of elements:

  • The Yin Yang of the year, month, day, and hour of birth
  • The Yin Yang of the Destiny palace versus the year of birth
  • The five elements of the year versus the month, the month versus the day, and the day versus the hour
  • The five elements of the Destiny palace versus the element of Life

Each comparison produces a score. The scores are added together to produce a total.

For the elder sister, the total is negative. Her elemental energies are not aligned, which may cause imbalances or disharmony in her life.

For the younger sister, the total is more favorable. Her elemental energies are more aligned, which supports a more harmonious life.

The Element Of Life

The element of Life is the fundamental element that describes the person. It is determined by the year of birth.

Both sisters were born in the year of the Dog, which is an Earth year. But in Zi Wei Dou Shu, the element of Life is further refined.

The elder sister’s element of Life is Da Hai Shui, which means “Great Sea Water.” It is a form of Water.

The younger sister’s element of Life is also Da Hai Shui.

So both sisters share the same element of Life.

The Phase Element

The Phase element is different. It describes the current situation and environment of the chart-holder.

The elder sister’s Phase is the fifth phase of Earth. The younger sister’s Phase is the fourth phase of Metal.

This is where the two charts diverge significantly.

How The Phase Interacts With Life

In the Five Elements cycle, each element interacts with the others in specific ways:

  • Wood generates Fire
  • Fire generates Earth
  • Earth generates Metal
  • Metal generates Water
  • Water generates Wood

And in the controlling cycle:

  • Wood controls Earth
  • Earth controls Water
  • Water controls Fire
  • Fire controls Metal
  • Metal controls Wood

For the elder sister, the Phase is Earth and the Life is Water. Earth controls Water. This means the Phase is in opposition to the Life. The result is tension and conflict in various areas of life.

For the younger sister, the Phase is Metal and the Life is Water. Metal generates Water. This means the Phase gives birth to the Life. The result is harmony and support. The younger sister’s chart is described as being under “heaven’s blessing,” with opportunities that come easily and success that is within reach.

What The Difference Means

This single difference, between Earth Phase and Metal Phase, produces a significant divergence in the two sisters’ charts.

The elder sister faces more friction. Her life requires more effort to achieve the same results. The younger sister encounters more ease. Her life is described as having a “red carpet” quality, where blessings arrive without being sought.

But this does not mean the elder sister’s life is worse in every respect. It means her life is structured differently. The friction she encounters may produce resilience, persistence, and depth that the younger sister’s ease does not.

The Four Coaching Posts

There is another point of comparison.

The Destiny palaces of both sisters reside at the Four Coaching Posts, also known as the Four Steeds.

People with this configuration are easily influenced by their environment. They are quick, agile, and nimble. They value wealth and may take shortcuts to achieve their goals. Their lives are busy and varied, influenced by the moving star Tian Ma.

But they may also feel lonely at times. They work hard and worry unnecessarily. They torture themselves with unpleasant thoughts.

Despite this, their agility allows them to adapt to changes easily and overcome challenges.

What This Teaches About Elemental Analysis

The elemental analysis of the two sisters reveals something important about Zi Wei Dou Shu.

Even when two charts share the same birth data, the interaction of elements can differ. The element of Life, the Phase element, and the elements of the Destiny palace all contribute to the overall reading.

In this case, the difference between Earth Phase and Metal Phase, relative to the Water element of Life, produces a significant divergence. One sister’s life is structured around friction and effort. The other sister’s life is structured around ease and support.

This is why a single chart is never the whole story. The same chart can produce different lives, and the elemental analysis is one of the reasons.

Key Takeaways

  • Yin Yang Wu Xing is the interaction of the five elements and the two polarities in Chinese philosophy.
  • Both sisters share the same birth data and the same element of Life, Da Hai Shui (Water).
  • The elder sister’s Phase is Earth, which controls Water. This creates tension.
  • The younger sister’s Phase is Metal, which generates Water. This creates harmony.
  • The elemental difference is one of the main reasons the two sisters’ lives diverge.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the element of Life in Zi Wei Dou Shu?

It is the fundamental element that describes the person, determined by the year of birth. In the twins’ case, both have Da Hai Shui, Great Sea Water.

What is the Phase element?

It describes the current situation and environment of the chart-holder. It is determined by the position of the Destiny palace.

Why does the elder sister have a less favorable alignment?

Her Phase is Earth, which controls her Life element of Water. This creates tension and conflict in various areas of her life.

Why does the younger sister have a more favorable alignment?

Her Phase is Metal, which generates Water. This creates harmony and support, described as “heaven’s blessing.”
