Trump And Harris: Why Comparing Two Charts Changes The Reading
In Zi Wei Dou Shu, the usual practice is to read one chart at a time.

The Single-Chart Approach
When a practitioner reads a chart on its own, the analysis proceeds along familiar lines.
First, the Destiny palace establishes the basic orientation of the life: what the chart-holder is built for, what they will naturally pursue, and what challenges will structure their path.
Then the other palaces are read in relation to the Destiny palace. The Career palace shows how the person works in the world. The Wealth palace shows how they handle resources. The Spouse palace shows the conditions of marriage. The Parents palace shows the family background.
Finally, the major cycles are layered onto the palaces. Each ten-year period activates different palaces and stars, and the reading follows the chart as it unfolds over time.
This approach is thorough, but it has a limit. It describes one person’s life, in isolation.
When Comparison Becomes Useful
Comparison becomes useful when two people are connected in a way that matters.
This can happen in several contexts:
- Two people considering marriage
- Two business partners building a company together
- Two competitors in the same field
- Two public figures whose lives intersect at a specific moment
In each case, the connection between the two people affects what happens to both. Reading each chart alone would miss the interaction.

Level 2: Cycle alignment. This looks at how each chart responds to the same yearly cycle. It is more specific than element interaction, and more useful for understanding a particular period.
Level 3: Palace contrast. This compares the same palace in two charts. For example, comparing Trump’s Destiny palace to Harris’s Destiny palace shows how each candidate’s fundamental orientation differs.

What Comparison Cannot Do
It is worth being clear about what comparison cannot do.
